A Bit About Us

 

Hello my name is Trudy McElroy and I am the founder of New England Markets. I have been a local to the New England region all of my life growing up in the Tenterden area near Guyra.

I came up with the idea to start New England Markets one weekend whilst talking to my friends about how tough 2009 had been with the EGC  and how we all were still trying to get back on our feet in 2010. My Fiance Chris and I also own a Contract Weed Spraying business and found it very hard last year to even survive at times. The conversation then went to the big topic of 2010 which is the global warming problem and what everyone had been doing to cut down on their emissions.

On my way home I was thinking to myself about how hard it is for producers to make that little bit more to get them through at the moment,  it is so hard to find a direct market with the middle man out to make all he can and once he has purchased our produce then ship it all over the county side.  Then there are people that think about producing, but we all know it is hard to find new contacts and markets when you are just starting out in a new enterprise.

I then thought if only there could be a direct point to help link the local producers to a more direct market, not just locally grown produce but handmade products as well. It would also be good to know when the farmers markets and other events were on. Which led me in starting New England Markets.

My hopes and dreams for New England Markets is to get all of the communities in the New England to work together and stand behind the locals by purchasing their produce and products locally.
